Biblesoft Macros

We no longer offer support for the Authoring Macros.
PC Study Bible doesn't not work with the Macros when it's run on Windows 8, 8.1 or 10. The Macros work with One Touch Windows Version for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. At this time, the Mac Versions do not work with the Copy or Authoring Macros.

What are the Biblesoft Macros?

There are 2 Macros that will come with a PC Study Bible Library; the Authoring Macro and the Copy Macro. The Copy Macro is our most popular and widely used to automatically insert a scripture into a Word document without having to go back the program, Paste text from PC Study Bible and Reformat Greek and Hebrew characters that don't copy over correctly. The Authoring Macro allows you to create a title in Word and make it show up as a title in PC Study Bible. We are no longer able to offer support on the Authoring Macros, but we do have articles in this, the Biblesoft Wiki, which will help you with running and fixing common problems.

= What do the copy macros actually do? - Scripture
This will place a Scripture in Word. The PC Study Bible program must be open for this process to work. On a blank line in Word, type a valid Bible reference (with a proper book title or abbreviation). Leave the cursor on the same line as the Bible Reference. Choose INSERT from the top tool bar, and select SCRIPTURE (or press Alt+I, and select SCRIPTURE). The reference will be instantly inserted into your Word document. The version displayed will be your default Bible Version from PC Study Bible.

Paste PC Study Bible
This option should be used whenever you have copied Greek or Hebrew texts from PC Study Bible to the Windows Clipboard. Simply switch to Word, position the cursor where you want to paste the text, then select EDIT and choose the PastePCSB menu option.

Reformat PCSB
This can be used if you have accidentally pasted Greek or Hebrew text from PC Study Bible without using the PastePCSB menu option or the text comes in without the characters. To use this macro, move the cursor to the beginning of the text, then choose Reformat PCSB and the will automatically correct.

How can I install the Copy Macro?

The file that comes with your program will work on 32 bit Editions of Word, but there are a lot of security settings that you need to lower just to get it to install. We have an updated Copy Macro file for 32 and 64 bit Editions of Word that doesn't require you to lower any security in Word, but you will need to Enable the Content in the file itself which is easier and safe over all. Your Version of Word will determine how to install the Macro.

Word 2003 or earlier

  1. Once the file has been downloaded, open it.
  2. In the Window that appears, click on Enable Macros.
  3. You will be taken to the Security window for the Macros.
  4. Click on the Security Level tab if it is not already displayed.
  5. Set the Security Level to Low.
  6. Click OK on the Security box.
  7. Close Word completely.

Word 2007

  1. Once the file has been downloaded, open it.
  2. Note - You may get a window asking if you want this file to make changes to your system if you are running Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8. Click on Yes to actually open the file.
  3. Click on OPTIONS which will appear towards the top of Word. This will appear if you have not changed the Trust Center Settings; you would know it if you have been there.
  4. A window will appear.
  5. Select ENABLE THIS CONTENT.
  6. Click on OKAY.
  7. Double click on the INSTALL in the document that comes up.
  8. Once the Macro has been installed you will see a message that says INSTALLATION SUCCESSFUL COMPLETED.
  9. Click on OKAY to start using the Macro.
  10. Close down Word and start it back up again to refresh the program.

Word 2010, 2013 or Office 365

  1. Once the file has been downloaded, open it.
  2. Note - You may get a window asking if you want this file to make changes to your system if you are running Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8. Click on Yes to actually open the file.
  3. Click on ENABLE CONTENT which will appear in a yellow bar towards the top of Word. This will appear if you have not changed the Trust Center Settings; you would know it if you have been there.
  4. Double click on the INSTALL in the document that comes up.
  5. Once the Macro has been installed you will see a message that says INSTALLATION SUCCESSFUL COMPLETED.
  6. Click on OKAY to start using the Macro.
  7. Close down Word and start it back up again to refresh the program.

How do I run the Macro after getting it installed?

  1. Start PC Study Bible.
  2. Note - Both MS Word and PC Study Bible need to be running at the same time.
  3. On a Blank line in MS Word, type, Rom 8:28 or another scripture
  4. Click on ADD INS, and then choose SCRIPTURE.
  5. This should bring in Romans 8:28.

I'm trying to install the Macro, but keep getting a message saying, "Compile error occured when running the Macro."

If you get a compile error and click on Okay, then you should be taken into the Visual Basic Application Editor and can replace Declare Function with Declare PtrSafe Function in each line of code that appears in red. After you have done that, click on Run at the top and then on Run Sub/ UserForm and if any other area have this same issue, you will probably get an error message.

This fix will work in both the Copy and the Authoring Macros

I'm getting a Runtime Error 429 when I run the Macro

The fix for this error, a common message to see, will vary depending on the Operating System you are using. If you are using a Version 4 or 5 program and the Reset to Factory Defaults doesn't appear, then you can install the update at Biblesoft:Updates and the Reset will appear afterward. You will need to install both the 4.3C Update and the Internet Explorer 7 Patch if you are running only a Version 4 program and the Reset to Factory Defaults does not show up. There is an alternative to getting this fix to run. Go down to the end of these instructions for that method.

Windows XP

The common fix for this message is to run the Reset to Factory Defaults:
This Reset to Factory Defaults is an option that starting in version 4.2D. Feel free to use it whenever you get an error message from PC Study Bible. It will set your changes back to the default setting.

  1. Close PC Study Bible.
  2. Click on Start.
  3. Click on Programs (or All Programs).
  4. Click on PC Study Bible 4 or 5.
  5. Click on Reset to Factory Defaults.
  6. The program may come up and run on it's own. If it doesn't then start up PC Study Bible.

When you start PC Study Bible again, the program will act as if you are opening it for the first time. For example, you'll have the opportunity to set your Bible preferences again. You may also see the following message as the program starts. This is normal in this situation. PC Study Bible did not shut down correctly last time - rebuilding topic database (this may take a few minutes).

Windows Vista

There are two ways to correct this error.
First, make sure you have applied the the PC Study Bible Compatibility Settings for Windows Vista & 7:

  1. Do not run PC Study Bible.
  2. Right Click the Icon for PC Study Bible found on the Windows Vista & 7 desk top.
  3. Left Click OPEN FILE LOCATION. If this isn't on the list, try Right Clicking over the name and not the picture.
  4. Look for two files, both are named JOSHUA.
  5. One is JOSHUA.DLL and the other is JOSHUA.EXE.
  6. This second file often is just JOSHUA and it has an icon that looks like the one found on the Windows Vista & 7 desktop.
  7. Right Click this JOSHUA file which has the icon. (Not JOSHUA.DLL)
  8. Left Click PROPERTIES.
  9. Left Click COMPATIBILITY.
  10. Two items will need to have Checks beside them.
  11. Put a Check beside DISABLE DESK TOP COMPOSITION.
  12. Scroll down a few lines, and put a Check mark on RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.
  13. Click the APPLY Button.
  14. Click the OK Button.
  15. Close the OPEN FILE LOCATION window.
  16. You should be at the Windows Vista & 7 desktop.
  17. Shut down and restart Windows Vista & 7.
  18. Once Windows Vista & 7 has restarted, go ahead and run PC Study Bible.
  19. Windows Vista & 7 may ask you to ALLOW this program to run. Choose ALLOW, or Yes.
  20. You also may get an odd message stating that your system is short on Hard Drive space. Ignore this message and choose YES.
  21. PC Study Bible should start up.

The message about running short of Hard Drive space is a false message. Currently, Biblesoft does not know why this message comes up. But we do know that it is a harmless message. This message will be seen if you're running v4 or early versions of v5.

The second solution is to try turning off User Account Control and run the Reset to Factory Defaults:
The User Account Control is a feature in Windows that prompts you to Allow programs to run or to ask repeatedly if you really wish to delete the file you wish to delete. It is not part of the Virus Checker, or the Systems Firewall, if you have them. So turning this User Account Control off is not turning off the firewall, or the Virus Checker.
Windows Vista:

  1. Close any programs you have opened.
  2. Go to the Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on User Accounts.

  2. Click the Start Button, usually found in the lower left corner of the screen.
  3. Click CONTROL PANEL.
  4. Look for a choice labeled USER ACCOUNTS, and Click it.
  5. When this window opens, look to the bottom for a selection labeled, CHANGE USER ACCOUNT CONTROL SETTINGS. Click this choice if it is here.
  6. If that item is not at the bottom of the window, then move to the upper part of the screen and Click USER ACCOUNTS again.
  7. Look at the bottom for the item, CHANGE USER ACCOUNT CONTROL SETTINGS. Click this choice.
  8. On the left side of the screen is a Slider that slides up and down. If this Slider is not already at the bottom, slide it to the bottom, to Never Notify.
  9. This turns off the messages, from Windows, asking you to give permission to run a program.
  10. Click the OK, and then Click Yes, to make changes to the system.
  11. On some Windows 7 systems, there will be a Button near the bottom of the screen for Restarting the System. If this Button is there, Click it to shut down and restart the computer.
  12. If this Button is not there, close the Settings Window and the Control Panel Screen, and Shut down and Restart the System.
  13. Once the computer has restarted, the User Account Control will be turned off.

One Touch and the Copy Macros

The only limitation of the using the Copy Macros with One Touch is if you need to apply the setting Run as Administrator to the program. If you have to apply this setting, then the Copy Macros won't run. Many people who have applied this setting can try taking out that setting and run the Reset file using the instructions below.

Word 2007

  1. Start MS Word 2007.
  2. Choose the Office Button found in the upper left corner of the screen.
    (This is the Round Button in the upper left corner)
  3. This will bring up a page of many other choices, look in the lower right and Choose, WORD OPTIONS.
  4. In the lower left, Choose, TRUST CENTER.
  5. On the far Right, Choose, TRUST CENTER SETTINGS.
  6. There should be several Buttons, Choose the one labeled, ENABLE ALL MACROS.
  7. Choose the OK Button on this screen, and the screen following.
  8. Now Exit MS Word completely.

Word 2010

  1. Open MS Word.
  2. To set up MS Word 2010, Choose FILE, in the upper left.
  3. Now Choose HELP.
  4. Look to see if the version of MS Word 2010 is the 32 bit, or 64 bit edition of MS Word 2010.

  7. Close the Help screen.
  8. Choose FILE, in the upper left.
  9. Choose OPTIONS.
  10. In the lower left, Choose TRUST CENTER.
  11. On the far Right, Choose TRUST CENTER SETTINGS.
  12. There will be a row of buttons, Choose, ENABLE ALL MACROS.
    (If there are no Buttons, you might be using a smaller edition called MS Word 2013/ 2016 Starter Edition.)
  13. Click the OK Button.
  14. Another screen will come up, it too will have an OK Button, Choose the OK Button.
  15. Close or Exit MS Word.

Installing the Copy Macro:

  1. Choose the START Button.
  2. Click on FILE EXPLORER or COMPUTER.
  3. Look for the Folder labeled DOWNLOADS and Open this folder.
  4. Run the GETREF file you downloaded early.
  5. Doing this should start MS Word.
  6. When MS Word is up and running, there will be a document from Biblesoft. There will be a Button labeled, INSTALL. Double Click this Button with the Mouse.
  7. After a few moments, there should be a message stating the Macros Were Successfully Installed. Click the OK.
  8. The Macros are now installed and should operate as expected.
  9. To use the Copy Macro, bring up a Blank Document in MS Word.
  10. Start One Touch.
  11. Both MS Word and PC Study Bible need to be running at the same time.
  12. On a Blank line in MS Word, type, Rom 8:28 then Click on ADD INS.
  13. Then Choose SCRIPTURE.
  14. This should bring in Romans 8:28.

Clearing any Errors Messages

  1. To Reset One Touch, download and SAVE the file found in the link below:

    The software is licensed to you specifically (your fingerprint, your DNA). As long as you are the only one using it, you may install it on as many computers as you need, e.g. a home computer, an office computer, and a laptop that you use for travel. As soon as a person other than you uses the software, it is a violation of the license agreement; the one exception is that members of your immediate family are permitted to use it within your home. When a family member moves out, that family member needs to buy a separate copy of PC Study Bible in order to continue using the program legally.

    When using the MS Word Biblesoft Authoring System tool bars, I can't find a way to apply paragraph formatting (e.g., margins, indentation, and line spacing)

    How can I control the name of a reference work I've created?

    Use the HEADER button (located on the Biblesoft Authoring System toolbar in MS Word) to set and maintain identifying information for your reference work, including its full name, short name, author name, and short copyright notice.

    When I try to compile, an error message says that there are no “”; in my reference work.

    The Biblesoft Authoring System organizes reference material using "keys". In a Bible Dictionary or Encyclopedia, the key indicates the article name. In a General Book, the key indicates the section name. And in a Commentary, the key indicates the book name, book and chapter, or book-chapter-and- verse range that the commentary applies to. A key must precede every portion of reference material. The key indicates both the type of information that follows and the name (e.g., "ABRAHAM" or "Chapter 1: €”The Roman Influence" or "1 Corinthians 13:1-3") by which it can be accessed. To correct this problem, place a key in front of each portion of your reference material.

    Can I use the Biblesoft Authoring System to incorporate into PC Study Bible reference works from other Bible Study programs?

    I have reference works that came with other Bible study programs that I have purchased. Can I use the Biblesoft Authoring System to incorporate those reference works into PC Study Bible?
    Yes. The sky is the limit if you are willing to spend the time and energy to copy and paste those materials from your other program into a MS Word document, and then tag them using the Biblesoft Authoring System.
    By way of reminder, copyrighted materials should be used only in accordance with copyright law. Unauthorized use of copyrighted works may be unlawful and may infringe the rights of the copyright owner. The "fair use" of a copyrighted work for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research is not an infringement of copyright. You should own a legal copy of the reference work, and you should not copy or distribute the resulting reference work without permission from the copyright holder.

    When viewing my reference work in PCSB, I can't click on any of its Bible references.

    You need to tag Bible references in order for them to be "hot" when viewed under PC Study Bible. Go back to your reference work source document, highlight a Bible reference that occurs in your reference material, and then click the BIBLE button on the Biblesoft Authoring System toolbar. Repeat the tagging process (or use the AutoTag feature contained in Release 2) for each Bible reference in your source document that you want to be "hot."

    I'm unable to install the Biblesoft Authoring System toolbars in MS Word 2000.

    We have had numerous reports that the Biblesoft Authoring System toolbars do not work under Word 2000. We have investigated this matter thoroughly and found that they do, indeed, work. A new security feature in Word 2000 causes the problem that people are experiencing.
    Explanation. Word 2000 supports a macro security setting of High, Medium, or Low. The default setting is High. The result is that the install macro associated with the INSTALL button in the BASTAG97.DOT file is not available. Consequently, double-clicking on the button results in an image edit mode, rather than the expected install process.

    Solution. If you upgrade from Word 97 to Word 2000, you will find that the Biblesoft Authoring System toolbars and macros are immediately available and functioning properly without requiring the following steps. However, you might consider changing the macro security setting to Medium (as documented below) in order to avoid future problems.

    Otherwise, the solution is to change the macro security setting to Medium” which will always display a message box, giving you the opportunity to enable or disable macros on a template-by-template basis. To do this, run Word 2000, select the Tools | Macro | Security option, and change the setting to Medium. Then exit Word 2000 (the new setting will not take effect until the next time you start Word). Open the BASTAG97.DOT document template. When prompted, select Enable Macros, then scroll down to page 2 and double-click on the INSTALL button, as documented.

    If I type a Bible reference, tag it, and then continue typing, the text that I am typing "disappears"

    We have made every effort to make the Biblesoft Authoring System as easy to use (or "non-technical") as possible. Therefore, we tried to make your pre-compiled Word document appear as closely as possible to what it will look like when viewed in PC Study Bible. The way we accomplished this was through Word text styles. Various styles are applied to indicate different types of embedded items, to reflect formatting, and so forth - and the actual Biblesoft Authoring System tags are hidden! Hence, when you tag an item and then begin typing immediately after it, the text that you are typing is picking up the very last text style used - which happens to be hidden!

    Two things. First, the safest thing to do is to enter your raw content, then go back as a separate step and tag it. Second, you can click on the Show/Hide button on the Word toolbar (it looks like a paragraph symbol) to "peek behind the curtain," so to speak, and see how the Biblesoft Authoring System works. However, be extremely careful when viewing your source document in this fashion, since the Biblesoft Authoring System has no means of recovering if you inadvertently alter any of the tags!
