Smart Notes (called Study Notes in previous versions of the program) are a way for you to make and save notes about the Bible.  Once you have created notes, your set of notes will appear as a commentary along with the rest of the commentaries in your library.  In fact, you could create an entire personal commentary using this feature.

<b>If you have not purchased a replacement of your Version 4 Library in the last 5 years, then you will run the risk of the disc not installing or not running properly. The discs for the Version 4 Libraries were created over 10 years ago and it is common for the information on CD's to degrade and cause problems with your program. A replacement will allow you to run your program than if you continued to use the disc you have right now. The Version 4 program will work on Windows 8, but it is still recommended that your get an Upgrade to the Version 5 Library which will work better on Windows 8 and 8.1 Operating Systems.</b>
Important Note: For your convenience, an empty note set has been provided with OneTouch, named "My Personal Notes". You should feel free to use that note set for your personal notes.  If you will be using the My Personal Notes set, please skip to Step 2. The following instructions for creating a new Bible study note set should only be used if you find it necessary to create a study note set in addition to the My Personal Notes set provided with OneTouch®.

The first step in creating your Bible study notes is to create and name a note set.  You will do this once for each note set you wish to create.  (Typically, all of your personal Bible notes will be kept in a single set.  Additional note sets may be desirable if other members of your family wish to maintain their own personal Bible study notes.

==Step 2==
+
=== Other Solutions for Issues with Greek and Hebrew Fonts ===
The second and third steps are repeated each time you choose to add or change a Bible study note.
+
<p>You can also try:<br>
The second step is to go to a specific passage in a Bible window.
+
<ol><li>Go to the folder C:/Program Files (x86)/ Biblesoft/ PC Study Bible/ Fonts.</li>
The following instructions assume that you will be using the My Personal Notes set (provided with OneTouch® for your use) or that you have already created and named another Bible study note set.  If you have not yet done that, please click the following button to go back to Step 1.
+
<li>Open up a Font's file.</li>
To add or change a Bible study note:
+
<li>Click on the Install button in the upper right corner.</li>
<ol>
+
Note - If you get a message saying this is already installed, click on Replace to refresh the file.
<li>Open a Multipane Bible Window by clicking on the Bibles button (located on the Main Toolbar) or by selecting File | Bookshelf | Bibles... from the menu.</li>
+
<li>Repeat steps 1 to 3 for all the Font'files or any file ending in TTF.</li></ol>
<li>In the Verse Reference Dialog, specify the desired book, chapter, and verse.</li>
+
Note - There maybe a Parsings file that is in this folder and that can be skipped.
<li>Click the paperclip button (located on the the lower toolbar (Local_Toolbars) to display the Bible study note pane in the lower portion of the Bible window. If you have previously added a study note for this reference, that note will be displayed in the study note pane. Otherwise, a message will be displayed indicating that the study note set has "no study note on this Verse."</li>

<li>Click anywhere in the study note pane.  This causes the study note pane to become the "active" window, and updates the lower toolbar to accurately reflect the actions that can be taken in a study note pane.</li>

<li>Click the Edit button (located on the the lower toolbarLocal_Toolbars) to edit the current note or add a new note.  If a note already exists for this reference, you will immediately be in "edit" mode--where you can add, delete, or change the text of your Bible study note.  You can even paste materials into your note from other reference works within your OneTouch library.  If a new note is being created, the Verse Reference dialog will appear.  You can use this dialog to attach

your note to a verse range, rather than simply the current verse.  By default, the Verse Reference dialog will indicate the current verse as both the beginning and ending verse--in other words, a verse range consisting of only one verse.  You can change the range by respecifying the beginning and/or ending chapter and/or verse numbers.  A study note that is attached to a verse range will be available from each and every verse within that verse range.</li>

</ol>

Study notes are automatically saved when you exit edit mode (click the exit edit button on the lower toolbar). However, you can also save a note at any time by clicking the Save button button (also located on the lower toolbar). Conversely, you can exit a note without saving any changes (in other words, to abandon any changes that have been made), by clicking on the Exit-no-save button (also located on the lower toolbar).
+
One last fix is to:<br>
 +
<ol><li>Go into the Options for PC Study Bible.</li>
 +
<li>Click on Text Styles.</li>
 +
<li>Click on Advanced.</li>
 +
<li>Click on Greek and make sure the font is set to PCSB Greek.</li>
 +
<li>Click on Hebrew and make sure the font is set to PCSB Hebrew.</li></ol>

==Step 3==
+
== Windows XP Operating System ==
The third step in creating a study note is to make changes to your study notes.  When making changes you can add content, change existing content, and/or delete content.
+
=== I get a message saying Missing SCU Files come up randomly while working in PC Study Bible ===
The simplest form of entering text is to type it directly into the edit window, which you opened in Step 2.  However, your commentary will become far more useful with the addition of formatting and embedded references.  "Formatting" describes how the content will be displayed.  "Embedded references" provide access both to and from other reference works in your OneTouch® library via Smart Reference™ and cross-references.

Internally, your study notes are stored with specially formatted text. You can see this source text and modify it with the

Formatting and embedded references are added to a reference work using "tags" and a "compiler." While this may sound technical, it isn't. Let's look at an example. The following text is from a personal commentary, attached to the book of 1 John:

OneTouch® spelling checker allows you to check the spelling in your notes.  To check the spelling in any study note article, you must be in Edit mode.  Then choose the Spell Check item from the Edit menu.  Any words that are not found in the dictionary are brought to your attention.

The spelling checker will use your Microsoft Word dictionary if Word is installed on your system.  It will also use the dictionaries supplied by Biblesoft, and any custom dictionaries that you have created.  The The Custom Dictionaries Dialog allows you to choose which dictionaries will participate in your spell checking.  You can also use the dialog to create and edit your own dictionaries.

Note: A "dictionary" in this sense indicates a list of words that the spelling checker will use to determine valid words.

=Preferences=

The following preferences are related to Study Notes:

Open warning - When this setting is enabled, a warning message will be displayed whenever you go to open a commentary to a reference that does not contain text.  When this setting is disabled, no warning message will be displayed.

Auto Save - When this setting is enabled, a Study Note that is being edited will automatically be saved any time you switch to another window or pane, as well as when you exit edit mode.  When this setting is disabled, you must click the save button (located on the lower toolbar) to save.

Closest match warning - When this setting is enabled, and the requested reference does not exist in the selected commentary tab

(Verse, Chapter, or Book), a message will be displayed to indicate that the reference work has no commentary for that reference and that the closest available reference will be displayed instead. When this setting is disabled, the closest available reference will be displayed without any message.  Note: This only affects movement within a commentary (via the Verse, Chapter, and Book tabs), and only appears when there is content under that tab that can be displayed.  In other words, it will never be displayed when no commentary exists anywhere within the selected tab (for the current reference work)--regardless of whether this option is enabled or disabled.

Study Note Editing Tools Visible - When this setting is enabled, the Study Note tagging buttons (specifically the Bible, text type, and paragraph type tags) are shown on the lower toolbar when you are in edit mode.  When this setting is disabled, these three buttons are not displayed.  Regardless of this setting, these buttons can be displayed or hidden using the Toggle Editing

PC Study Bible Version Version 4

We no longer offer technical support or replacements on Version 4 programs. If you have not purchased a replacement of your Version 4 Library in the last 5 years, then you will run the risk of the disc not installing or not running properly. The discs for the Version 4 Libraries were created over 10 years ago and it is common for the information on CD's to degrade and cause problems with your program. A replacement will allow you to run your program than if you continued to use the disc you have right now. The Version 4 program will work on Windows 8, but it is still recommended that your get an Upgrade to the Version 5 Library which will work better on Windows 8 and 8.1 Operating Systems.

To get help with Installing PC Study Bible, click on Biblesoft:PCSBInstall.

Below are Common Issues you may see when running PC Study Bible Version 4

The solutions below don't apply to the 2 categories above. Each of the issues listed below will vary depending on the Operating System you are using and will be separated accordingly. If you don't find the issue on this page, then you will need to contact Biblesoft:TechnicalSupport.

  1. Put this Complete, or Advance Reference Library disc into the CD drive and close the drive.
  2. If you don't have your disc, then go to the instructions below these and download the files that would normally show up on your disc.
  3. Windows 7 should bring up a window that has a few choices.
  4. Choose the choice, OPEN FOLDERS TO VIEW FILES.
  5. This will give you a list of the contents on this CD.There should be one folder named FONTS.
  6. Double click this folder to open it.
  7. There will be several font files here. Highlight them by pressing CTRL+A.
  8. Now Press CTRL+C.
  9. Close the window that shows the contents of the CD.
  10. Choose the START Button.
  11. Now Choose CONTROL PANEL.
  12. Once the Control Panel opens, look for APPEARANCE and PERSONALIZATION and Choose this option.
  13. Depending on how your Control Panel is setup, will determine whether or not this option will be available.
  14. Choose FONTS.
  15. When the FONTS screen opens, Press CTRL+V.
  16. Windows may want you to choose Yes, or No, to reinstall these Fonts. Choose YES until all fonts are reinstalled.
  17. Close all windows until back to the MS Windows Desk top.
  18. Remove the Disc from the CD drive.
  19. Now start PC Study Bible and check for Greek and Hebrew text.

You can also create a Fonts folder in the PC Study Bible 4 folder and put in the 4 Font files found by clicking on the link below:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/uu5hcx9aldfs09l/AAD5AWj75Vs4spKH21GxL5Uda?dl=0
This link will take you to a public folder on Dropbox, that will allow you to download the fonts for your library if you need them or can't find them on your disc or you don't have your disc handy.

Other Solutions for Issues with Greek and Hebrew Fonts

You can also try:

  1. Go to the folder C:/Program Files (x86)/ Biblesoft/ PC Study Bible/ Fonts.
  2. Open up a Font's file.
  3. Click on the Install button in the upper right corner.
  4. Note - If you get a message saying this is already installed, click on Replace to refresh the file.

Note - There maybe a Parsings file that is in this folder and that can be skipped.

One last fix is to:

  4. Click on Greek and make sure the font is set to PCSB Greek.
  5. Click on Hebrew and make sure the font is set to PCSB Hebrew.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 Operating System

After installing PC Study Bible, I am not able to open my program or when I open my program there are missing icons or titles

You should always make sure you have applied the the PC Study Bible Compatibility Settings for Windows Vista & 7:

  1. Do not run PC Study Bible.
  2. Right Click the Icon for PC Study Bible found on the Windows Vista & 7 desk top.
  3. Left Click OPEN FILE LOCATION. If this isn't on the list, try Right Clicking over the name and not the picture.
  4. Look for two files, both are named JOSHUA.
  5. One is JOSHUA.DLL and the other is JOSHUA.EXE.
  6. This second file often is just JOSHUA and it has an icon that looks like the one found on the Windows Vista & 7 desktop.
  7. Right Click this JOSHUA file which has the icon. (Not JOSHUA.DLL)
  8. Left Click PROPERTIES.
  9. Left Click COMPATIBILITY.
  10. Two items will need to have Checks beside them.
  11. Put a Check beside DISABLE DESK TOP COMPOSITION.
  12. Scroll down a few lines, and put a Check mark on RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

  20. You also may get an odd message stating that your system is short on Hard Drive space. Ignore this message and choose YES.
  21. PC Study Bible should start up.

The message about running short of Hard Drive space is a false message. Currently, Biblesoft does not know why this message comes up. But we do know that it is a harmless message. This message will be seen if you're running v4 or early versions of v5.

I have made sure these have been applied, but I keep getting the original error message or I get a new message that didn't come up before

If those don't clear up the error messages, then try turning off User Account Control and run the Reset to Factory Defaults:
The User Account Control is a feature in Windows that prompts you to Allow programs to run or to ask repeatedly if you really wish to delete the file you wish to delete. It is not part of the Virus Checker, or the Systems Firewall, if you have them. So turning this User Account Control off is not turning off the firewall, or the Virus Checker.
Windows Vista:

  1. Close any programs you have opened.
  2. Go to the Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on User Accounts.
  4. Click on the option for "Turn User Account Control on or off"€.
  5. User Account Control asks your permission.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Uncheck the box which says "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer"€.
  8. Click OK.
  9. You must restart your computer to apply these changes” message appears.
  10. Click Restart Now.
  11. Windows restarts.
  12. User Account Control is now turned off, but Vista may prompt you each day to turn it back on. (See explanation above about the message "balloon"€.)

Windows 7:

  1. Close any major program such as PC Study Bible, MS Word, or the Internet Browser.
  2. Click the Start Button, usually found in the lower left corner of the screen.
  3. Click CONTROL PANEL.
  4. Look for a choice labeled USER ACCOUNTS, and Click it.
  5. When this window opens, look to the bottom for a selection labeled, CHANGE USER ACCOUNT CONTROL SETTINGS. Click this choice if it is here.
  6. If that item is not at the bottom of the window, then move to the upper part of the screen and Click USER ACCOUNTS again.
  7. Look at the bottom for the item, CHANGE USER ACCOUNT CONTROL SETTINGS. Click this choice.
  8. On the left side of the screen is a Slider that slides up and down. If this Slider is not already at the bottom, slide it to the bottom, to Never Notify.
  9. This turns off the messages, from Windows, asking you to give permission to run a program.
  10. Click the OK, and then Click Yes, to make changes to the system.
  11. On some Windows 7 systems, there will be a Button near the bottom of the screen for Restarting the System. If this Button is there, Click it to shut down and restart the computer.
  12. If this Button is not there, close the Settings Window and the Control Panel Screen, and Shut down and Restart the System.
  13. Once the computer has restarted, the User Account Control will be turned off.

Next run the Reset to Factory Defaults:
This Reset to Factory Defaults is an option that starting in version 4.2D. Feel free to use it whenever you get an error message from PC Study Bible. It will set your changes back to the default setting.

  1. Close PC Study Bible.

  3. Click on Programs (or All Programs).
  4. Click on PC Study Bible 4 or 5.
  5. Click on Reset to Factory Defaults.
  6. The program may come up and run on it's own. If it doesn't then start up PC Study Bible.

When you start PC Study Bible again, the program will act as if you are opening it for the first time. For example, you'll have the opportunity to set your Bible preferences again. You may also see the following message as the program starts. This is normal in this situation. PC Study Bible did not shut down correctly last time - rebuilding topic database (this may take a few minutes).
